Packaged My Ass

It seems somebody at Newegg hates me. The second part of my Computer upgrade came today. Boy was it a mess.

My 2 sets of 2x4 RAM (totaling 16 gigs in 4 sticks) came in an envelope. Their was nothing else in the package. No foam, nothing. It was just my RAM and a sickly yellow envelope. I guess this doesn't really annoy me. At least compared to everything else that happened.

What really annoys me is that the envelope was seven inches wide... completely flat. My RAM was 6 and a half inches. However, that, is not flat. In fact, I can not fit my RAM into the envelope without folding it. Who the hell thought of this?

After pulling my twisted cases of RAM from their prison I began to install them. The first pair went in great. Click Click and done. The second set was a disaster. After attempting to install the first piece for a minute to no avail I moved to the second. Instantly I noticed something was wrong. The heatsink was crooked. Sighing I began to install it anyway. As I worked and attempted to get the RAM to fit snuggly into it's slot, the heatsink slid off the RAM!

It turns out that the "glue", the thermal paste or whatever it is, had never even stuck to the Stick. Really? Annoyed, I pulled the other stick from the set out and put it back in the container. It is going to cost me $10 to mail the piece back, their goes the money I saved on the sale.

It's days like this, when I hate my computer...

I Hate my Computer

So, this afternoon I got the first part of my computer upgrade: a brand new car! No, lol, it was not a car, but it did start with a C. Anyway, my new CPU was going to be soooo awesome. I am planning on upgrading from a Triple Core 2.8 Ghz processor to a brand new Six Core 3.2 Ghz one. I mean this new one was going to kick my old Processors butt. Except that it didn't work.

Turns out my motherboard is a tad bit old (3 years, which is ancient in the computer world). So while it supports my Processor and I can plug it in, it does not run it. Instead it calls it something else and runs about as well as a half naked man being raped by a rhino while bobsledding. That is to say, not very well.

So, I guess that means a few things.
First, do your research, it may take some time, but it will never be a waste of it.

Second, know what your doing, don't buy stuff you can't run, it makes you look and feel stupid.

Finally, learn from your mistakes, I won't be doing this again, and hopefully none of you will either.

So, if any of you have any motherboards you want to suggest than just let me know. I'm shopping for one now, a pity really.

Frustration

I have now wasted 20 pages of paper due to Microsoft's Incompetence. If that doesn't catch your attention then I don't know what will.

My story begins with a party. This party happened last week on a Sunday much like today. Hot, humid, a great day for a party in all respects. At that party I got some presents, the good kind, the ones you actually want (ie money).

Now for the past hour I have been attempting to print off a thank you that I made earlier this week. Nothing fancy, just some text and two pictures. Simple.

Here is where the problem begins though. My card is written on half the size of a standard size of paper (8.5 x 5.5 inches). So. In order to save paper, I decided to print two pages per page of paper. Sounds easy right? It isn't.

For some reason when I print he pages print on two per page, but they are rotated so that they appear as if two portraits instead of two landscapes. This makes for a rather boring card since most of it is then left blank.

To fix this I have attempted altering how my printer prints the two pages from Portrait to Landscape and vise versa. Apparently this is the same as ordering the printer to mirror the pages. Who knew? It does nothing but make the problem more annoying.

Everything I have tried has failed miserably, and resulted in more frustration. I'm pretty sure that the cards I end up printing will have a lot more whitespace then I anticipated. It's late, and I don't want to spend another hour on this problem.

In conclussion, Microsoft Word = Waste of Time. Get OpenOffice. It's free and actually works!

To Reach Your Destination Please Drive Up

So... I was trying to use Google to get a map going from point A to B. Well that worked and then I decided to play a little. You know how you can "Drag to change the route"? Well I did that here and dragged from some place on a highway to my destination. Apparently Google will let me do this but I either need to fly or fall from the sky. Since I can't fly, I have decided that falling is my only option. My quest for a cannon begins...

Oddly, this picture is relatively sane compared to what happens if you turn around.

In this one, in order to get to destination you need to be everywhere. I'm still trying to figure out how I can manage this... Also, you will notice that my person has moved. The funny thing is. He hasn't. I simply spun the camera to move down the road. Maybe I'm the Tasmanian Devil... maybe not.

Here is the final stage of my route.
My favorite part of this picture is the fact that getting to my destination is not the point. Instead you must go past it. Collide with yourself. Drive in a circle and then get to your destination. I'm not sure why Google thinks this is a good idea. If I want to get to my destination I prefer to go from point A to point B. Rarely do I attempt to get to point C. Point C being some random point that is in two different spots, the air and everywhere but not at the same time. I don't really see the point. If I wanted to get to point C I would set it as my destination in the first place.

@Google: I broke it. Sorry... :D

Has anything like this happened to you? If so, share your story in the comments.

I had more fun adding all the links I just added then having this conversation. Click at your own risk!!! They are all apparently relevant items according to Amazon's search or League of Legends. You have been warned!

...hmmmm, maybe I should move that warning up to the top...

Our Dying World

It seems that the recent article I posted on birds falling from the sky is not a singular thing. On a recent post on his blog justsayin' posted about similar things occuring around the world.

I don't know about you but I have never of this before. Fireworks scaring thousands of birds and fish causing them to die? Yeah, sure. Sounds like theirs more that is going on that we don't know about.

Perhaps some weird disease or climate change is effecting how the birds and fish are living. This just doesn't sound good.

Feel free to post your opinions in a comment below and if you see anything more about this I'm interested and am looking for more information. So post something on your blog or leave a comment somewhere and maybe we can figure out what is killing all the birds.

I Hate Blizzard

When Star Craft 2 came out I was excited. As many of you know The Brood War was perhaps one of the greatest game of year until Halo 3 and remained the best RTS until SC2... at least that was what I thought.

I preordered Star Craft 2 three months before the release because I really wanted the game. Really, really wanted the game. This was before I knew that Blizzard had turned evil.

Now that I have the game I have realized a few things:
  1. Without an Internet Connection the game is terrible. The box even says "internet connection required" and while this isn't totally true (you  can play off line as a guest account and no progress is saved and no achievements are earned)
  2. With an Internet Connection the game is slightly decent. You may think "Star Craft 2, thats a good game" and the answer is simply, no. While the game is fun to play, the mods are amusing and the campaign is good the game lacks many things that make it superb. First, you can't get achievements while you are disconnected from the internet and this does make sense, however Blizzard's servers tend to disable achievements every five seconds or less so their is really no point.
  3. You need a Battle.Net account. For those of you that don't know Battle.Net is the most amusingly stupid service a company could think of. You may sign up for an account for free and place as much fake information as you want on it (Blizzard will not follow up) but if you ever want to change your name Good Luck. To change your name you need almost everything you don't have: The name of your baptizing priest, your birth certificate, a copy of your finger prints and a full DNA scan. This is completely pointless and is annoying as hell to get around.
  4. You may only have one activated game... ever. I recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my computer and then tried to install Star Craft 2 again. That went fine and everything went pretty smooth, however when I tried to activate my game it said, in as polite a way as possible: "Fuck You". This is extremely annoying and should be taken as a word of caution to any of you that buy the game from ebay, don't.
  5. Ever had a LAN of Star Craft or Warcraft 3? Well Blizzard didn't really think that you needed to do that, ever, in any more of it's games. Both Diablo 3 and Star Craft 2 have 0 LAN ability. Good luck having a LAN with another Blizzard game.
These are only a few of the reasons I hate Blizzard. I will not be buying Diablo 3 nor any other Blizzard game ever again. I used to think that EA was bad for it's Anti-Piracy BS but apparently Blizzard has taken the, "O NOES YOU HAVE DAEMON TOOLS INSTALLED YOU CANT PLAY ME" to a whole new level.

I think I'll stick to Torchlight rather then go to Diablo 3.

The Bad Ben Bluster

Red-faced: Bureau of Engraving and Printing manager Kevin Brown displays a new $100 bill at the World's Fair of Money in Boston in August. Now a flaw with the new bills has halted production
A new $100 bill on display at the World Fair of Money in August

More than 1 billion Benjamin's have been quarantined due to a printing error. This error will cost about $120 million dollars for the United States from production cost alone.

The bad money is being held in Fort Worth Texas and in Washington D.C.

These new bills, at first, appear the same as regular bills. However when they are pulled at the ends a crease unfolds creating a white line across the bill.

It would seem that these new bills are not as fool proof as the treasury thought.
