Oparok

Here is a quick screen of the second game I am working on. Someday I hope to turn it into a card game, but, at the moment, this is all I have.

The game will play a lot like risk in the later stages involving armies attacking one another and attempting to take over. However it features some things from games like Magic The Gathering as well.

The board is made up of resource tiles (seen above) that players place at the start of the game. This effectively creates the battlefield. When each player has placed their last resource they place their Armies Leader on that tile. All resources start uncontrolled and are taken over when a Leader or Army begins it's turn on it. After taking over lands the player receives resources (Steel, Crystal, Plasma and Credits) from all resources they control. They can use these to play Instant, Structure or Army cards on the battlefield. Using these they must defeat the enemy army, conquer more resources and eventually destroy the enemy.

As always suggestions are welcome.

1000 Blank Cards

This is an interesting game that myself and my friends found a while ago. The game actually has no real rules and has no set rules. Those are designed by the players. The basic idea is to attempt to achieve a specific number of points using cards created on hand made cards on note cards.

You can check out the rules and more over at the games website: http://www.1000blankwhitecards.com/. Also checking out the Wikipedia Page might not be a bad idea.

The idea of the game is simple. You set up a certain point system. The idea is to achieve a specific number of them. You can play a single card a turn and draw one at the beginning of your turn. You start the game with X cards in your hand (we use 5). You also start with five blank cards per player. They can create a card at any time and place it in their hand.

Before playing you can create as many cards as you want and shuffle them into the deck of cards. This is how the deck is created. You don't want to create incredibly overpowered cards because that ruins the game. Also making overly weak cards is not worth it. Create any cards you want with any effects you want. Be creative. Remember you can always remove cards you don't like or find are unbalanced from the deck at any time.

Their are three types of cards that we use when my friends and I play. Standard cards, Instant Cards and Permanent ones. Instants may be played at any time in any number. Permanents are played like standard cards are and either a permanent or standard card may be played a turn. Standard cards are played on your turn after drawing. You can play one standard or permanent a turn.

Really these are just the rules we play by and you can change them in any way you like.

If you come up with any fun card ideas I have created a spreadsheet that gives some examples of cards and is free to play with. You can add any cards you like to it. Or, if you are lacking creativity use them to help build your deck. Here is the link: spreadsheet.

Enjoy the game.

Also if you need some note-cards I found some cheap ones on Amazon.

Tutorials Are Starting Again

Over the next two or three weeks I'm going to periodically post some Tutorials so that we can finish overload. I'm not going to focus on them too heavily but hopefully we can get some fun tutorials out and make a sweet game.

Tomorrow I'm also going to teach you a really fun (and random) card game. All you will need is a pen and some Notecards (lots of notecards, a few hundred will do). You will need someone to play with though cause otherwise it's no fun at all.

If you are looking for a sneak peak the game is called 1000 Blank Cards. I am composing a database of cards here. Feel free to take a look. Rules and more tomorrow.

Also, for the notecards. Our deck (m freinds and mine) has over 1000 cards in it.

Would You Use This?

I have been thinking about writing an application for the Zune HD to keep track of my life in Magic. I have come up with 2 ideas.

  1. A Simple 3D d20 that spins down if you scroll down or left and up if you scroll up or right. The problem is that I don't know what would happen once you went over 20.
  2. A text driven version with a +/- that allows you to go to unlimited numbers. The only problem with this is that it won't look as neat or be as awesome.
If you have any suggestions then let me know. Also if you play Magic and want to offer some suggestions feel free to comment.

So You Want Some Cheap Gaming Supplies

I just happened to stumble upon this great site while I was looking for some Magic cards to pwn my friends with. Troll and Toad is a site that sells all most any type of gaming supply you could want. Some great board games (Monopoly, Risk), pen and paper games (Dungeons and Dragons, D20)as well as the normal card games (Magic, Pokemon).

Basically the site is for all of us nerds/geeks/exhiles of society that want a fun thing to fill the time were not spending on the interwebs or playing COD.

The reason I recommend Troll and Toad is simple. Price. I spent about $50 on cards that would have cost me $100's to buy elsewhere (say CardKingdom). This was rather nice.

Also the shipping is quiet reasonable (at least for cards). Shipping 99 cards will cost you a small amount of only 99 cents. Hardly a bad deal.

I highly suggest checking the site out. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Magic - Drawn to Death Deck

As promised here is my second deck. It has a lot more cards in it then the first one does at first glance. However if you narrow down what you want you see that their are only a few needed cards.

Creatures:
4x Cephalid Broker
2x Blizzard Specter
2x Shimian Specter
2x Guul Draz Specter
2x Needle Specter
2x Silent Specter
1x Ghastlord of Fugue
1x Circu, Dimir Lobotomist

Sorcery/Instant:
2x Dream Salvage
4x Perplex
2x Mind Funeral
4x Memory Sluice
2x Snap
2x Braingeyser
2x Turnabout
2x Early Frost
1x Mana Short

Enchantments/Artifact:
4x Megrim
4x Liliana's Caress
2x Underworld Dreams
2x Geth's Grimoire
2x Oppression
4x Telekinetic Bonds
4x Pemmin's Aura
2x Keening Stone

Land:
2x Reliquary Tower
4x Lotus Vale
10x Island
10x Swamp

Must Haves:
4x Lotus Vale
4x Telekinetic Bonds
4x Pemmin's Aura
4x Cephalid Broker
4x Cephalid Looter
4x Megrim
4x Liliana's Caress
4x Blizzard Specter
4x Perplex
2x Underworld Dreams
2x Turnabout
2x Early Frost
1x Forced Fruition
1x Mana Short

Combo:
Infinite Milling - How does it work? With all three cards in play, tap the Broken and target your opponent; they will draw two and then discard two. With two triggers on the stack for Telekinetic Bonds, tap the Lotus Vale and make three blue mana. Use two blue mana to untap the Vale with the first Bonds trigger. Tap the Lotus Vale again and make three more blue mana (4 in pool). Pay 1U to untap the Broker with the second trigger. You have two blue mana in your mana pool and the Broken untapped, Vale tapped. Proceed to tap the broker, untap the vale, tap the vale, untap the vale, untap the broker, etc. Repeat for infinite milling.

If you have any suggestions for this or my other deck then just let me know. This will probably be it for magic decks, at least for a while, as I don't have the money to build two much less three magic decks. But, if you want additional decks built then just ask and I might post a deck or two more that you might like.

Magic - Zombies Arise Deck

So... Magic the Gathering.

I have played it for about 10 years now and have enjoyed it. The game is fun, the games amusing. Granted some of the new cards are total bull shit. Anyway, I have been considering making a deck for a while now and this is perhaps my favorite idea so far.

Basically the idea is to kill your own creatures. By doing this you gain zombie tokens, the enemy must sacrifice creatures and they also lose life. A good idea don't you think! Additionally the deck is able to bring enemy and allied creatures back under my control pretty much at will. I require 5 zombies per resurrection but that should not be too hard.

Here are the card I plan on using:

Total Cards: 58
Creatures (21):
4x Bone Dancer
1x Lim-Dul the Necromancer
4x Rotlung Reanimator
4x Gravespawn Sovereign
4x Vengeful Dead
2x Helldozer
2x Putrid Imp

Enchantment: (11)
2x Grave Pact
2x Call to the Grave
2x Attrition
2x Haunted Crossroads
2x Zombie Infestion
1x Contamination

Sorcery (6):
4x Dark Ritual
2x Buried Alive

Land (20):
2x Starlit Sanctum
16x Swamp
2x Culling the Weak

Helldozer was just stuck in as a "haha screw you" kind of card. The deck is currently only 58 cards and I am attempting to make it an even 50 or 60 so if you have any suggestions then please let me know. Also I want to make this an affordable purchase, I don't play enough to make spending $100 on cards worth it.

I have a second fun deck that I will be posting sometime soon. Still working on that one.

Let me know about this one and I will soon show you the next one. (EDIT: The new deck has been posted)
